SR 99 Accident With Hit-and-Run Driver Injures Motorcyclist

A hit-and-run that resulted in an injury occurred in Sacramento on April 9 after a motor vehicle and motorcycle collided on a local freeway. The collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. along northbound State Route 99 just south of the eastbound 47th Avenue entrance ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP)

Motorcycle Rider Transported to Hospital Following Crash With Hit-and-Run Driver

Sacramento Fire medics were called to the scene to assess injuries to the motorcyclist, who had been riding a Honda CRV, and the patient was transported to UC Davis Medical Center. The driver involved in the accident fled the scene. Authorities are investigating to determine how the collision occurred and searching for the hit-and-run driver.

Problems With Intersections

Around 40 percent of all traffic collisions occur at intersections, and negligence is the usual cause. Some of the reasons these accidents happen include:

  • Running a red light or stop sign
  • Absence of stop signs or traffic signals
  • Poor lighting
  • Obscured views
  • Speeding
  • Making a turn without looking for oncoming traffic
  • Drunk driving
  • Distracted driving

When a Hit-and-Run Driver Causes the Injury

Hit-and-run accidents are more common as people try to avoid responsibility for their actions. Some may be driving on a suspended license or have outstanding tickets. Others may be drunk driving or committed some other offense. For whatever reason, the hit-and-run driver needs to be located to hold them responsible for their negligence.

How My Law Office Can Help

Over the years, my legal team and I have helped many injured motorcyclists and other motorists who have been harmed by a hit-and-run driver. We do our best to locate the driver because we believe that it’s bad enough to be injured without having to pay for the trauma caused by another. We locate the driver by sending investigators out to collect evidence.

Our investigators are thorough in collecting evidence, such as searching for business, road, and traffic surveillance cameras that could have captured the accident on tape. They interview witnesses, who may be able to describe the vehicle or driver or even recall part of the license plate number. Accident reconstruction is performed, which includes photographing the site and looking for pieces of metal or paint that can be matched to the make and model of the hit-and-run driver’s vehicle.

The investigators perform accident reconstruction to illustrate how the hit-and-run occurred and show the positioning of the vehicles. In many cases, it shows who was at fault for the accident. In addition, the police report is checked by the investigators to look for mistakes because an error could affect our client’s compensation claim.

Compensation Can Be Sought Through Insurance Coverage

If the hit-and-run driver cannot be found, the injured party has the option to use their uninsured/underinsured insurance policy to pay for their injuries. It covers the individual whether they are injured in a motor vehicle accident or on a bicycle or on foot. If they don’t carry this add-on insurance, but another member of the household does, that can be used instead. It does not affect the rates.
