Highway 89 Crash Kills One

One man was left with fatal trauma after a Highway 89 crash took place north of Truckee on Thursday, Wednesday, September 4, 2019. California Highway Patrol (CHP) released a report the following day identifying the decedent as a 23-year-old man from the community of Turlock. County authorities are still withholding the man’s identity until his family is notified about the tragic accident. According to information from the police, the accident involved a single vehicle and the Turlock man was the only person injured during the incident. CHP has this crash under investigation.

Accident Details

Police stated that the accident was first discovered by Caltrans workers who found the wreck near Highway 89 in the area of Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club. After conducting an accident reconstruction, officials determined that the man had been driving a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic at unknown speeds on Highway 89 when he attempted to navigate a curve. However, the driver apparently lost control and left the roadway, traveling around 25 feet off the highway before striking a pine tree. After the collision, the vehicle slid down a nearby embankment and out of sight from the highway.

Workers were reportedly placing guide markers along the highway when they spotted the severely damaged vehicle and immediately contacted emergency officials. Police from the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident and tragically declared the driver deceased on-scene.

Fatal Accident Investigation

Understanding just what caused an accident can be difficult, and many times collisions are caused by factors that drivers don’t have control over. However, when drivers involved in a crash are unable to give their account to police, an investigation can be even more complicated because police may overlook a faulty vehicle part or roadway hazard that contributed to the crash.

This is one of the reasons that it’s so important to speak to an attorney as soon as possible after a fatal collision. Your lawyer will be able to conduct a thorough private investigation into the crash in order to find out if there were any negligent parties that should be held liable for damages. In many cases, families can hold these parties responsible for the full amount of damages they have suffered and can recover payments for things like lost household income, emotional trauma, medical bills, funeral costs, and more.
