Highway 29 Accident Leaves American Canyon Resident Fatally Injured

On Monday, June 22, 2020, an American Canyon resident suffered fatal injuries during a local car accident. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office identified the decedent as 47-year-old woman Estelle Pryor. In addition to Pryor, one other person suffered injuries during the accident. The American Canyon Police Department (ACPD) is handling an investigation into the accident.

Crash Details

The collision occurred during the late morning on Highway 29 near the Kimberly Drive intersection in American Canyon. Pryor was driving a silver Toyota pickup truck southbound on Highway 29 heading toward Vallejo when, for unknown reasons, she reportedly lost control of her vehicle. Shortly after, the Toyota traveled over the highway median and into northbound traffic. As Pryor’s vehicle entered oncoming lanes, it collided with a second, white-colored Toyota pickup truck. Police reported that Pryor was ejected through a vehicle window as a result of the impact.

Response

Police were dispatched out to the crash scene and arrived shortly after the incident occurred. When emergency responders reached the area, they found that Pryor was critically injured and had her rushed via ambulance to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center. Tragically, she was later declared deceased while in hospital custody.

The driver of the second pickup truck, identified as a 35-year-old Vallejo man, was discovered with serious injuries and also hospitalized. Updates on his injuries have not been reported. However, his trauma was reportedly not life-threatening.

Investigation

Northbound lanes of Highway 29, as well as one southbound lane, were shut down at Kimberly Drive during initial accident response and crash scene investigations. The road remained closed for over an hour while vehicles were detoured into the neighborhood west of the highway. So far, ACPD hasn’t reported any likely factors of the crash.

Collisions like this one are often caused by one or more factors that aren’t under driver control like malfunctioning truck parts, hazards in the road, and more. Furthermore, investigating fatal accidents can be difficult for police when they are unable to take testimony from involved drivers. Without the decedent’s version of events, police may not uncover important evidence that could be a major part of a wrongful death case.

The best way to be sure that a fatal accident is investigated to the fullest extent possible is to reach out to a wrongful death lawyer in your area. A lawyer will be able to use their resources and skills to conduct a private investigation that prioritizes your family’s right to claiming compensation.

Calling an Attorney

Losing somebody you love can be overwhelming, and many people want to delay calling an attorney while they focus on processing their grief. While it’s extremely important to take care of yourself during this time, liable parties are typically not experiencing the same emotional stress and almost always act quickly in order to disclaim financial responsibility. To ensure that negligent parties are held responsible, it’s important to get in touch with a lawyer as soon as you are able.
