Accident on Dewey Drive Between Two Vehicles Causes Rollover

A rollover accident occurred in Fair Oaks on October 23 following a two-vehicle collision. The report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the accident was caused when a Toyota Scion and red SUV crashed around 12:32 p.m. along southbound Dewey Drive. The accident occurred just north of Madison Avenue.

Rollover Accident Additional Information

Both southbound lanes of Dewey Drive were blocked by the rollover accident. One male managed to extricate himself from the red SUV, which was left overturned onto its roof. Sacramento Fire Department responders arrived at the scene to assess injuries in the crash. A tow truck was required to upright the SUV, and at least one of the vehicles had to be removed.

Rollover Accidents

Certain vehicles such as SUVs, vans, and light trucks are more likely to experience a rollover than others. Because these types of vehicles are top-heavy and have a higher center of gravity, that makes it easier for them to roll. The problem is that in an accident, the airbags inside a vehicle deploy but deflate soon afterward. This means the vehicle may roll a number of times with the passengers inside only protected by their seat belts.

Car Rollovers and Roof Crush

Auto manufacturers are held to standards on the roof strength of a vehicle, but not all of them adhere to it. In cases where the strength is insufficient, the vehicle can experience roof crush, causing severe traumatic head and spinal injuries and increasing the risk of fatalities. This is one of the reasons it is important to retain a vehicle that has experienced a rollover, so it can be checked to see if manufacturer negligence led to the roof crush and subsequent injuries. If it is found that the manufacturer was negligent, a product liability lawsuit can be placed to cover the costs of the injuries. An experienced injury attorney can help.

Injuries in a Rollover Crash

Injuries suffered in a rollover can be more serious than most other types of accidents. In many rollovers, the passengers inside are tossed around, while in others, an individual may be ejected. Some of the types of injuries that can result from a rollover include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries frequently occur as a result of a rollover accident. Injuries may range from a concussion to serious, life-altering trauma.
  • Spinal cord damage can be caused by the individuals inside being tossed around or by roof crush. These injuries are either temporary or permanent, causing paralysis.
  • Broken bones are common in any type of traffic crash but may be more severe in a rollover accident. More serious fractures may require pins or plates to repair and need surgical intervention.
  • Chest and abdominal trauma can occur due to the seat belt, airbags, or violent contact with the inside of the vehicle. Injuries can include a punctured lung, broken ribs, or internal bleeding.

Investigating a Rollover Accident

Our investigators are experienced in collecting the evidence needed to support a client’s claim for compensation. They first check over the police report for errors and talk to the accident witnesses. Accident reconstruction is performed, as well as a search conducted to find area traffic surveillance cameras

If the accident involves a rollover, they examine the vehicle to see if roof crush was involved and caused injuries. Once the evidence is compiled, our lawyers build a strong case in support of our client’s claim. It is used in insurance company negotiations, or if necessary, in civil court.
