DUI Crash Near Stockton Injures Child
I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton Auto Accident Attorney. A car crash involving one vehicle that plowed into a tree on August 9, 2016, resulted in a child being airlifted from the scene with traumatic injuries. The young child’s dad was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol.
What Happened?
A 4-year-old child was riding in the rear-right seat of a 2003 Saturn Ion. Behind the wheel was his 31-year-old father, a resident of Jackson. The boy’s father reportedly lost control of the car, wrapping the right rear side of the vehicle around a large tree.
The CHP reported that the crash took place around 6:20 p.m. as the car traveled at about 30 mph on eastbound Riata Road, in the vicinity of Tapadero Street. The location of the accident is largely rural and in close proximity to Pool Station Road which is north of Highway 4. Both the driver and the child were properly restrained.
Child Suffers Major Injuries
Sadly, the young child suffered major injuries as a result of the forceful impact with the tree. An air ambulance was needed to transport the child to the UC Davis Medical Center located in Sacramento. The exact nature of his injuries was not reported.
Father Suffered Minor Injuries
The father was also injured in the crash and had to be transported by air rescue to Modesto’s Memorial Medical Center. His injuries have been described as minor, according to the CHP.
CHP Arrested Father on Suspicion of DUI
Following his medical treatment, the father of the young child was arrested by the CHP. He is facing charges of suspicion of drunk driving resulting in major injuries to another individual and child endangerment.
