73-Year-Old Manteca Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash

MANTECA, CA — A woman on foot, age 73, was tragically killed while walking home after a church service in a devastating hit-and-run accident Friday morning, September 18.

According to Manteca police, the collision happened at approximately 5:49 a.m. Officers responded after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 800 block of West Lathrop Road.

According to a witness, the driver who hit the woman stopped and exited their vehicle after the collision. The driver then returned to their vehicle and drove away from the scene.

The woman, a Manteca resident, was transported to a hospital for treatment of her severe injuries. Sadly, the earnest efforts of medical personnel couldn’t save her.

Police reported it is believed that the victim wasn’t walking inside a crosswalk when the incident occurred.

OAKDALE, CA – According to the Modesto Fire Department, three injured people were rushed to a local hospital Saturday morning, September 19, after a sedan left Highway 120 (aka Lon Dale Road) north of Oakdale and barreled into a residence. The crash occurred shortly after 9:20 a.m. as the car was moving west on 120. For reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle veered off the roadway, smashed all the way through a nearby fence, and into a residential driveway.

From there, the vehicle’s entire front half forced its way into the home, where two residents were inside. Both occupants, along with the driver of the sedan, were taken by ambulance in what officials said were varying states of injury.

The MFD responded to the scene around 9:20 in the morning with a substantial emergency response. A rescue rig, two ladder trucks and two fire engines were dispatched to the crash.

When firefighters arrived, they found one person trapped inside the vehicle and another inside the home.

Emergency crews worked to extricate the person trapped in the sedan and provided medical treatment at the scene before the injured individuals were transported for further care.

For the people inside the house, an ordinary Saturday morning suddenly became a terrifying experience. A vehicle leaving a highway can travel a considerable distance before coming to a stop, and in this case, the sedan crossed a fence and private property before striking an occupied home.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision. At this time, the reason the sedan left Highway 120 remains unknown.

MODESTO, CA – Two separate pedestrian crashes in Modesto on Saturday, September 19, left two people injured, including a juvenile who was flown to a pediatric trauma center for treatment.

The first collision happened around 8:50 a.m. near Modesto Junior College. The site was at the intersection of Coldwell and College avenues. The Modesto Fire Department responded to reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

Firefighters found the pedestrian lying on the street. An MFD official said the pedestrian had been inside the crosswalk when the collision occurred. The victim reportedly had moderate injuries.

Later that afternoon, around 2:40, another pedestrian was struck within Crows Landing Road’s 1800 block.

Fire and medical crews quickly arrived at the scene, where they learned the victim was a juvenile. The child was moved to an ambulance, which carried the young victim to the Modesto Airport for transport to a pediatric trauma center. Reports suggest the child was treated for moderate injuries.
