Cause of Fatal Tesla Crash Under Investigation
CHP is continuing to investigate what caused the Tesla to leave Serrano Parkway and strike the tree.
Authorities had not immediately indicated whether speed, impairment, distraction, roadway conditions, a mechanical issue, or another factor contributed to the collision.
Investigators may examine physical evidence from the roadway, vehicle damage, available electronic vehicle data, witness information, and other evidence as they work to determine how the crash occurred.
Safety After a Vehicle Catches Fire
Vehicle fires following serious collisions can create additional dangers for occupants and emergency responders. If a vehicle catches fire after a crash and an occupant is able to safely exit, the person should move a safe distance away from the vehicle and roadway and call emergency services.
Occupants should not return to a burning vehicle to retrieve personal belongings. Emergency responders are trained and equipped to address vehicle fires and assist people who may remain trapped.
