SONORA, CA — On Monday morning, Sept 7, two drivers traveling on Highway 108 close to the turnoff to lower Mono Way in Sonora collided in a serious accident, that, remarkably, resulted in only minor injuries..

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. An east-moving Ford F-350 operated by Sanger, CA resident, Angel Dominguez, age 18, reportedly crossed into the westbound traffic lane and collided head-on with a Subaru Forester operated by Modesto resident, Lyda Paul, age 55.

The CHP said Paul attempted to evade the approaching pickup by swerving, but the Subaru was forced up against a concrete barrier wall and overturned. The Ford continued traveling east before finally stopping down-road.

Luckily, both drivers experienced only minor injuries. An ambulance transported them to Adventist Health Sonora for treatment. CHP officials said alcohol and drugs were not suspected of contributing to the collision.

Highway 108 was temporarily shut down while crews cleaned up the scene, including fluids that had slopped onto the highway.

Woman Critically Injured, Two People Killed in San Joaquin River Boat Crash

STOCKTON, CA — A woman was critically injured and two other people were found dead following a deadly boating accident Sunday, Sept. 5, on the San Joaquin River.

The crash occurred at about 5 p.m. near Mandeville Island. At the time, a nearby boater was wrapping up a day on the water with his family when he noticed something was wrong.

“I could see basically the belly of the boat up in the air,” the witness recalled.

The witness and several other boaters immediately headed toward the wreckage. According to his account, another boat arrived at the scene, and a teenage boy jumped into the water to help the woman who had been thrown overboard. The teen reached her just before she began to sink beneath the surface.

The witness’s wife, a nurse, also entered the water from their boat and helped stabilize the injured woman while they waited for the sheriff’s office to arrive.

Authorities said the woman was transported by helicopter to a hospital, where she was last reported to be in critical condition.

Investigators believe two additional people were aboard the boat. Tragically, one was found dead Monday night, while the second was located and pronounced dead Tuesday.

On Tuesday, a team of sheriff’s office boats could be seen from the air moving slowly through the Delta waters as crews continued searching the area.

The sheriff’s office said speed may have contributed to the crash. Officials noted that much of the information gathered so far has come from witness accounts, and the investigation remains underway.

For the boater and his family, what began as an ordinary day enjoying the water quickly turned into a sobering reminder of how fast a peaceful outing can become a tragedy.
