Suspect Arrested in Elk Grove Hit-and-Run That Seriously Injured 74-Year-Old Pedestrian

A 59-year-old Elk Grove resident has been taken into custody in connection with a Elk Grove hit-and-run that seriously injured 74-year-old pedestrian. The incident occurred along West Camden Drive in Elk Grove.

Pedestrian Struck Near Camden Lake Way

The collision happened around 9:00 a.m. on July 30, 2026, as the 74-year-old victim was walking near West Camden Drive and Camden Lake Way. Investigators report that a passing vehicle struck the woman, and the driver immediately fled the scene without pulling over or providing aid.

Nearby residents and bystanders rushed to assist the injured pedestrian until police and emergency medical responders arrived on scene. She was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment of serious injuries, where she remained admitted when officials announced the driver’s arrest.

Surveillance Video and License Plate Readers Aid Investigation

Traffic detectives began investigating the collision and worked to identify both the vehicle and its driver.

According to police, investigators used home surveillance footage, investigative follow-up, and automated license plate reader information to identify the suspected vehicle as a GMC Yukon.

Detectives subsequently identified the suspected driver as 59-year-old Gary Lyons of Elk Grove.

Investigators Locate SUV With Front-End Damage

Traffic investigators later arrested Lyons at his home in the same neighborhood, not far from where the collision occurred.

Detectives also located the suspected GMC Yukon inside the garage. Police reported that the SUV had front-end damage that investigators believed was consistent with the hit-and-run investigation.

Lyons was transported to the Main Jail and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. The charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
