A 16-year-old killed and passenger seriously injured in fiery Sacramento crash following a single-vehicle collision near El Camino Ave and Verna Way in Sacramento County on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, according to authorities.

Teen Driver Ejected After Vehicle Strikes Power Pole

According to the California Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation, the teenage driver was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when another vehicle pulled out in front of him.

The teen lost control and crashed into a power pole, causing the vehicle to catch fire. The 16-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

Authorities have not released his identity.

Female Passenger Rescued from Burning Vehicle

A female passenger remained inside the vehicle following the collision and was pulled from the burning car during the emergency response.

According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, she suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Additional information regarding her condition was not immediately available.

Electrical Lines De-Energized During Rescue

Because the collision involved a power pole, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel coordinated with SMUD to de-energize electrical lines while emergency crews carried out the rescue operation.

The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the fatal crash.

Investigators will likely examine the circumstances surrounding the reported speeding as well as the actions of the other vehicle that allegedly entered the teen driver’s path before the collision.
