LODI, CA – A hit-and-run collision in Lodi led to a police chase Friday afternoon, August 7, that ended in a second crash and the arrest of a Lodi man. Police said a loaded firearm was found inside the suspect’s vehicle.
The incident began at about 3:35 p.m. when an officer observed a tan Lincoln run a stop sign at Main Street and Lodi Avenue before striking a gray Ford traveling westbound on Lodi Avenue. Rather than stopping, the driver of the Lincoln fled the scene.
The officer activated his emergency lights and siren and followed the Lincoln southbound on Main Street. The driver continued speeding and ran another stop sign at the intersection of Main and Tokay streets before colliding with a white Dodge pick-up truck driving westward on Tokay Street.
Officers arrived at the second crash to assess the occupants for possible injuries. Lodi Fire Department and CenCal Ambulance personnel also responded, with firefighters providing medical aid and removing the Lincoln’s driver from the vehicle.
During their investigation, officers reported finding a loaded firearm on the front passenger-side floorboard of the Lincoln. Police also said they discovered empty beer cans and indications of marijuana use inside the vehicle.
The driver was identified as 32-year-old Lodi resident Hertaejpal Singh. He was arrested and transported to a local hospital for an injury sustained in the crash. Luckily, the occupants of the other vehicles reported no injuries at the scene.
After receiving medical clearance, Singh was taken to San Joaquin County Jail, where he was booked on charges that included DUI, a parole violation, firearm-related offenses, gang enhancements, and additional vehicle code violations.
