MERCED, CA – The Merced California Highway Patrol advised motorists to expect delays Saturday morning, July 25, along a stretch of Highway 99 between Atwater and Merced following a solo big rig crash.
According to a Merced CHP social media post, southbound traffic was reduced to one lane after the crash blocked the No. 2 lane. Crews worked to withdraw the truck and perform repairs on roughly 100 feet of damaged guardrail, causing delays for drivers traveling through the area.
The post did not say how the crash occurred or whether anyone was injured.
CHP urged motorists approaching the scene to slow down, remain alert and change lanes only when it is safe to do so. The agency also reminded drivers that commercial trucks require more time to stop, have larger blind spots and need additional space to maneuver. Allowing that extra space can help prevent crashes.
