Driver Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Tree Along Highway 113 in Woodland

A driver killed after vehicle crashes into tree along Highway 113 in Woodland on Tuesday morning, June 2, 2026, following the violent single-vehicle crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Occurred Near East Main Street

CHP reported receiving notification of the collision at approximately 9:25 a.m. on northbound Highway 113 near East Main Street. Responding officers arrived to find a severely damaged vehicle overturned against a tree off the roadway.

Investigators believe a Toyota was traveling northbound on Highway 113 when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle by entering the center median. According to CHP, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the southbound lanes, and traveled off the freeway before crashing down an embankment and striking a tree.

Driver Ejected and Pronounced Dead

Authorities said the force of the collision ejected the driver from the vehicle. Investigators reported that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died as a result of the injuries sustained.

A passenger who was properly restrained with a seatbelt suffered minor injuries and survived the collision.

The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Investigation Ongoing

CHP said investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, it remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

The roadway was temporarily affected while emergency crews conducted their investigation and removed the wreckage. Highway 113 has since reopened to traffic.

Seatbelts Remain One of the Most Effective Safety Measures

Traffic safety officials consistently emphasize the importance of wearing seatbelts. Proper restraint use significantly reduces the risk of ejection and can dramatically improve survival rates during serious collisions. Drivers and passengers are encouraged to buckle up every time they travel.
