Two Killed in Elk Grove Crash Following Encounter With Suspicious Vehicle

Two killed in Elk Grove crash and two others injured in a major collision early Monday morning, June 1, 2026, in Elk Grove, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.

Crash Occurred at Elk Grove Florin and Brown Roads

Police said an officer observed a Hyundai deemed suspicious shortly after 4 a.m. on the east end of Brown Road. As the officer turned to approach the vehicle, one individual reportedly fled on foot.

Authorities said the Hyundai then accelerated westbound on Brown Road at a high rate of speed before colliding with a Tesla at the intersection of Elk Grove Florin Road and Brown Road.

Two Fatalities Reported, Two Others Hospitalized

The Tesla was occupied by four people at the time of the collision. Elk Grove police confirmed that two occupants were killed in the crash, while the remaining two occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released.

Juveniles Detained Following Collision

Investigators said two juveniles who were inside the Hyundai were taken into custody following the crash. Officials noted that the individual who initially fled on foot was not among those detained.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation as detectives work to determine the events leading up to the fatal collision.

Roadway Closed During Investigation

Elk Grove Florin Road was closed between Calvine Road and Heritage Hill Drive as officers processed the scene and gathered evidence. Authorities advised motorists to seek alternate routes, noting the roadway would remain closed for several hours.
