Pedestrian In Elk Grove Hit-and-Run Left with Life-Threatening Injuries

A 35-year-old man was arrested after striking a pedestrian in Elk Grove hit-and-run crash that caused life-threatening injuries on Saturday night, May 23, 2026, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.

Crash Occurred Near Elk Grove Florin Road

Police said officers responded around 8:45 p.m. to Elk Grove Florin Road, just north of Heritage Hill Drive, after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Bystanders were already providing aid when officers arrived, and the victim—a 47-year-old Elk Grove man—was found in the northbound lanes.

Emergency crews transported the man to a local hospital, where medical staff indicated he is not expected to survive his injuries.

Investigation Details Vehicle Leaving Driveway

According to investigators, the pedestrian was walking north toward the sidewalk at an apartment complex driveway in Florin Road when a vehicle exited the driveway and struck him while entering northbound traffic.

Police said surveillance and automated license plate reader data identified a white Honda minivan seen fleeing the scene. Investigators also reported the driver ran a red light at Brown Road and narrowly avoided striking another pedestrian in a crosswalk shortly after the crash.

Suspect Located and Arrested

Using license plate reader information and prior contacts, investigators identified Demond Hunter as a suspect. Officers later located him north of Elk Grove in Sacramento County with a white Honda van showing damage consistent with the collision.

Hunter was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. Police said additional charges may be filed depending on the victim’s condition.

Hit-and-Run Crashes Often Carry Severe Consequences

Collisions involving pedestrians are especially dangerous, and leaving the scene can significantly worsen legal consequences for drivers. Authorities emphasize that drivers must remain at the scene, render aid, and cooperate with emergency responders.
