Accidents May 25

LOS BANOS, CA — Several people were hurt Friday morning, May 22, in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 152 west of Los Banos, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said officials from the Los Banos Area office received a call around 9:48 a.m. about a crash involving ejections from vehicles on westbound Highway 152 near the Romero Visitor Center, close to San Luis Reservoir.

According to CHP’s preliminary investigation, an 18-year-old Los Banos man was driving westbound in a 1999 BMW coupe in the No. 1 lane at an undetermined speed. A 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 19-year-old man and carrying four passengers, was traveling in the No. 2 westbound lane, also at an unknown speed.

For reasons still being investigated, CHP said the BMW driver lost control of the vehicle. The BMW veered into the center median, rotated back into the west-moving lanes, and crashed into the Chevrolet Tahoe. The Chevy Tahoe then struck the center median guardrail, CHP said.

Three passengers in the Tahoe were ejected from the vehicle. CHP said those passengers were not wearing seatbelts.

Four people suffered moderate to major injuries and were transported by ambulance to hospitals in Modesto, according to CHP.

CHP said alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.

STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA – According to the California Highway Patrol, minor injuries were reported in a rollover crash on Highway 4 in Stanislaus County on May 24.

CHP did not release details about what caused the crash or identify the people involved, only that it involved two vehicles. Officials also reminded drivers that stretches of Highway 4 in Stanislaus County have significant hills and serious turns, which can make it harder to see ahead and leave less time to react.

In a statement, CHP reminded drivers to “Prepare for anything, slow down and always have your eyes on the road.”

The crash is still under investigation.

WATERFORD, CA — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred early Monday May 25 on State Route 132. At approximately 1:26 a.m., a 28-year-old driver operating a Toyota pickup eastbound traveled off the roadway and collided with a telephone pole east of McEwen Road.

The impact caused the truck to overturn, ejecting the driver, who sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities confirmed the driver was unrestrained at the time of the collision. The CHP continues to investigate whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
