MODESTO, CA – Late Thursday night near Modesto, an unexpected roadblock with four legs caused quite the scene. Around 11:40 p.m. on May 14, 2026, a Honda traveling near Claribel and Albers roads collided with a cow that had wandered partially into the traffic lane near the white roadside line, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash left both the driver and passenger with only minor injuries, and neither needed a trip to the hospital. Oak Valley Ambulance treated the pair at the scene, with the passenger suffering a few cuts. Sadly, the cow did not survive the collision.
While bovine traffic jams aren’t exactly a daily event, CHP officials say drivers should keep their eyes peeled in rural areas where livestock can occasionally turn a quiet drive into a very unexpected encounter.
And no one needs a mooving violation.

STOCKTON, CA – Authorities are investigating a tragic head-on collision that claimed the life of a Stockton man on Saturday afternoon, May 16, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said the crash happened around 12:17 p.m. on Highway 4. A Tesla Model X, driven westbound by a 51-year-old Stockton man, was carrying two juvenile passengers at the time of the incident.
At the same time, a Kia sedan driven by a 38-year-old Stockton man was traveling eastbound. Investigators said the Kia crossed into the westbound lane, prompting the Tesla driver to steer left in an attempt to avoid a collision. CHP said the Kia then moved back to the right, and the two vehicles crashed head-on.
Following the impact, the Kia became airborne and landed in a drainage ditch roughly 20 feet south of the highway. Emergency crews found the driver unconscious and worked to remove him from the vehicle.
He was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital, where, sadly, the man was later pronounced dead, officials said.
The driver of the Tesla and the two passengers suffered moderate injuries but declined medical treatment. CHP said family members later took them from the scene.
