A semi-truck fire slows traffic on Interstate 5 in South Sacramento after catching fire Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2026, causing traffic delays along Interstate 5 in South Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

Truck Fully Engulfed in Flames Near Pocket Road

The fire occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Pocket Road. Sacramento Fire officials said the semi-truck became fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading into the trailer the truck was pulling, which was loaded with cardboard.

Video released by the fire department showed the truck’s cab heavily damaged and destroyed by the intense fire while positioned on the shoulder of the highway.

Driver Escaped Without Injuries

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the incident. Firefighters remained at the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m. working to extinguish remaining hotspots and secure the area.
