At approximately 5:07 p.m., CHP officers responded to reports of a major traffic collision. Upon arrival, authorities located two vehicles involved in the crash, one of which was on fire.

According to a CHP news release, two occupants of a Chevrolet S10 sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials stated their identities are being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Ford Edge, identified by police as Webb, suffered major injuries and was transported to Marshall Medical Center for treatment.

Traffic Impact

State Route 49 was closed in both directions for approximately 90 minutes while first responders conducted rescue and recovery operations. The roadway was reopened around 8:00 p.m.

Investigation Ongoing

CHP continues to investigate the cause of the head-on collision. Authorities have not yet released information regarding contributing factors or whether impairment, speed, or roadway conditions played a role.
