Rollovers from Multiple Crashes Snarl Highway 50 Traffic Near Folsom

Crashes snarl Highway 50 traffic near Folsom with the roadway reduced to one lane and heavily congested Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2026, following a series of crashes, including multiple rollover collisions, according to the California Highway Patrol.

What Happened

CHP’s East Sacramento Division reported six to seven separate crashes occurring between approximately 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on both westbound and eastbound Highway 50. The collisions were concentrated between East Bidwell Street and Folsom Boulevard.

Several of the crashes occurred within a short time frame, prompting lane closures and significant traffic delays as emergency crews responded and worked to clear the roadway.

One incident involved three vehicles on westbound Highway 50 just west of East Bidwell Street. CHP stated that those involved reported complaints of pain, but no serious injuries were confirmed.
A second crash occurred on westbound Highway 50 just east of Prairie City Road, involving two vehicles and a rollover. CHP reported minor injury complaints from those involved.

A third incident involved a solo-vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 50 in the same general area. Details regarding the cause of that collision have not yet been released.

Traffic Impact

All crashes were cleared by early evening, according to CHP. However, traffic remained slow and congested in both directions between East Bidwell Street and Folsom Boulevard as crews worked to fully reopen lanes and restore normal traffic flow.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have not released information regarding what led to the series of crashes. CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding each incident.

Driver Safety Tips

Heavy traffic congestion and sudden slowdowns can significantly increase the risk of multi-vehicle and rollover crashes. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, maintain safe following distances, stay alert for sudden stops, and adjust driving behavior during peak traffic hours to help prevent chain-reaction collisions.
