Three-Semi Crash Closes Highway 50 to I-5 Connector in Sacramento

A three-semi crash closes Highway 50 to I-5 Connector in Sacramento on Tuesday morning, January 20, 2026, after the crash involving three tractor-trailers.

The collision was reported shortly after 8:20 a.m. on the transition ramp. CHP dispatch records show that one semi-truck jackknifed across the ramp, completely blocking traffic, while another truck was forced against a guardrail. All three commercial vehicles sustained damage, prompting a full shutdown of the connector.

Despite the severity of the crash scene, no injuries were reported. Traffic was significantly impacted during the morning commute as CHP officers and heavy-duty tow crews worked to remove the trucks and reopen the roadway.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Freeway Connector Safety Tips

Freeway connectors and transition ramps can be especially dangerous for large commercial vehicles due to tight curves, changing speeds, and merging traffic. Drivers should exercise caution by:

  • Maintaining safe following distances near semi-trucks
  • Avoiding sudden braking or lane changes on ramps
  • Remaining alert during peak commute hours

Truck jackknife accidents can occur quickly and often lead to major traffic disruptions and secondary crashes.
