Two Injured in Vehicle Accident Near Excelsior Road in Sacramento

Two individuals were injured in a vehicle accident near Excelsior Road in Sacramento on Friday evening, January 17, 2026.  A car collision was reported shortly before 7:40 p.m., prompting a rapid response from fire and medical personnel. Engine 55 was first on scene and confirmed that two patients sustained head injuries related to the crash. Medic 2 arrived shortly after to provide additional evaluation and medical care.

Emergency responders assessed both injured individuals on scene to determine whether hospital transport was necessary. While the extent of their injuries has not been formally disclosed, both patients were reported to be conscious and able to communicate.

Traffic in the area was temporarily impacted as crews worked to secure the scene and assist those involved. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the sequence of events leading up to the crash.

Evening Driving Safety and Head Injury Risks

Evening collisions often carry an increased risk of injury due to reduced visibility, fatigue, and heavier traffic flow as drivers return home. Head injuries, even when symptoms initially appear mild, can be serious and may worsen hours or days after a crash.

Drivers can help reduce the risk of injury by:

  • Slowing down in areas with limited lighting
  • Maintaining safe following distances
  • Staying alert for sudden stops or turning vehicles
  • Seeking medical evaluation immediately after any head impact

Anyone involved in a collision should monitor symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, confusion, or nausea and seek medical care if they develop.
