STOCKTON, CA — Authorities shared on Wednesday that a tragic crash which closed a busy Stockton intersection Tuesday night involved a driver who had just fled another collision.
Stockton police said officers were called to the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Golden Gate Avenue around 8:18 p.m. after a two-vehicle crash was reported.
The Stockton division of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) later explained that one of the vehicles, a Chevy Tahoe, was fleeing the location of a hit-and-run that had occurred moments earlier farther east on Golden Gate Avenue near Farmington Road. Police said the two incidents happened within about a minute of each other.
When officers arrived at the second crash site, they found two adult men, both drivers, who were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were originally termed as having an unknown level of severity.
Police later confirmed that one of the men died from his injuries. Officials have not yet said which driver passed away, and no names have been released. As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made, according to CHP.
The collision led to a prolonged closure of the intersection at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Golden Gate Avenue.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may help to please contact the Stockton Police Department.

STOCKTON, CA – A life was tragically lost early Friday morning after a person was struck by a vehicle while changing a tire along southbound Interstate 5 near Stockton, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said officers responded around 4:30 a.m. to southbound I-5 north of Roth Road following a collision involving two vehicles.
Investigators explained that one individual had exited their vehicle to change a tire when they were hit by another vehicle traveling through the area. The person suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not immediately known, CHP said.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities noted that impairment does not appear to have played a role.
