TRACY, CA – Authorities say a woman has been taken into custody after a disturbing incident on Interstate 580 in Tracy, where her one-year-old daughter was found injured following a suspected DUI crash.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car collision occurred around 3 a.m. on the westbound side of the highway near the Grant Line Road off-ramp. Investigators say the driver left the scene without notifying emergency responders, leaving her young child behind with serious injuries.
Witnesses later called police after seeing a woman walking along the highway. When officers located her, they noted signs of significant alcohol intoxication. Due to her condition, she reportedly did not recall the crash or its location.
After questioning her, officers were able to trace the scene and found the child around 5:20 a.m. The little girl had managed to get out of the damaged vehicle on her own. She was quickly taken to Oakland Children’s Hospital and is expected to recover, according to authorities.
The woman was arrested and faces charges that include felony DUI, felony child endangerment, and felony hit-and-run. We are grateful to the witnesses who notified police, and who, in turn, helped save the little girl from further harm.
