One Killed, Three Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash at County Roads 102 and 17 Near Woodland

A deadly crash at County Roads 102 and 17 near Woodland in rural Yolo County left one person dead and three others injured on Thursday morning, October 23, 2025, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The collision, which involved two vehicles, occurred just before 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of County Roads 102 and 17 — about six miles north of Woodland and near Davis. Emergency crews arrived on scene to find significant damage to both vehicles.

CHP officials confirmed that one individual died at the scene. Three additional victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the events leading up to the crash to determine the cause and whether factors such as speed, visibility, or driver fatigue may have played a role.

Essential Safety Tips for Navigating Rural Fog

Driving in rural fog requires extra caution, as conditions can change rapidly and visibility may drop to near zero, often compounded by a lack of street lighting. The most crucial safety tip is to significantly reduce your speed to give yourself more reaction time and stopping distance. Use your low-beam headlights only, as high beams will reflect off the fog and worsen glare; never rely solely on daytime running lights. Activate your fog lights if your vehicle is equipped with them. Increase the distance between your vehicle and others and use the right edge of the road or the center line as a guide to stay in your lane. Finally, avoid the temptation to stop on the travel lane; if you must pull over, move completely off the road to a safe spot and turn on your hazard lights.
