Solo Crash Causes Major Damage on Eastbound U.S. Highway 50
A solo crash causes major damage on Eastbound U.S. Highway 50. — On Monday morning, September 8, 2025, at around 6:15 a.m., a traffic collision occurred causing significant roadway damage along eastbound U.S. Highway 50 near Watt Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Crash Details
A silver-colored Subaru Forester was involved in a single-vehicle collision with a metering light pole located at the end of the northbound on-ramp of Watt Avenue. The force of the impact severed the pole at its base, dispersing both the pole and accompanying signage across multiple lanes of traffic. As a result, several vehicles reportedly sustained flat tires due to roadway debris.
CHP officers and emergency crews quickly responded to clear lanes and requested a street sweeper to remove debris from the mainline. Tow trucks were called to remove the Subaru and damaged equipment. The Sacramento County Fire Department also assisted as a precautionary measure.
The driver of the Subaru attempted to leave the scene but was contacted by law enforcement. The incident caused delays for commuters while cleanup and repairs were conducted.
Safety Tip: Avoid Distractions and Reduce Speed on Ramps
Accidents involving road equipment or infrastructure often occur on highway on-ramps, where speeds can be high and visibility limited. Drivers should reduce speed, stay focused, and avoid distractions while entering highways. Maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles and scanning for potential hazards can prevent serious collisions and damage.
