19-Year-Old Faces DUI Charges After Driver Crashes into Home in Chico

A 19-year-old faces DUI charges after driver crashes into home in Chico along with multiple vehicles early Tuesday morning, June 24, 2025, in Chico. According to the Chico Police Department, the collision occurred shortly after 4:00 a.m. at the intersection of Walnut and West Ninth Streets.

Collision Damages Home, Street Fixtures, and Parked Cars

Authorities say a Chico resident was driving southbound on Walnut Street when he failed to turn onto Ninth Street. His vehicle veered off course, striking a street sign, a fire hydrant, several parked cars, and the front of a residence before coming to rest in the yard.

Fortunately, no other injuries were reported. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was later arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Ongoing Cleanup and Intersection Improvements

Cleanup efforts temporarily impacted traffic in the area for about an hour. Crews were already scheduled to install a new traffic signal at this intersection as part of a Caltrans improvement project, an effort that may help prevent future accidents in this busy zone.
