Train-Car Collision in Downtown Sacramento Sends Three to Hospital
On the morning of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, a light rail train-car collision in downtown Sacramento at the intersection of 6th and H streets in Downtown Sacramento sent three to hospital. Emergency medical services responded around 10:29 a.m., and three individuals, the train operator, a train passenger, and the driver of the car, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries for evaluation. The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) reported that the impact caused the train to derail. A bus bridge was implemented on the Gold Line between Sacramento Valley Station and 13th Street Station to maintain transit service while the scene was cleared and investigated.
Staying Safe Around Trains: Tips for Drivers and Pedestrians
Train crossings and rail intersections require extra caution to prevent accidents. Drivers should always obey all railroad signals and stop signs, never attempt to outrun a train, and ensure tracks are clear before crossing. Pedestrians should stay alert, avoid distractions like headphones or mobile devices, and only cross tracks at designated pedestrian crossings. Trains cannot stop quickly, and even at low speeds, they carry enough momentum to cause significant injury or damage. Practicing these safety habits helps protect everyone near railways.
