Seven Injured After Car Strikes Vallejo Dollar Tree

Seven people suffered injuries after a vehicle crashed into a Vallejo Dollar Tree store on Thursday, November 21, 2019. According to officials from the Vallejo Police Department (VPD), the crash only involved one vehicle, and none of the injured parties suffered life-threatening trauma. Police have stated that they are actively investigating the incident.

Crash Details

Officials reported that the crash took place just before 1:00 p.m. at 3475 Sonoma Boulevard in the Vallejo Plaza Shopping Center. An unidentified 71-year-old woman was driving a 2001 Honda Accord in the center’s parking lot when her vehicle traveled through the Dollar Tree storefront. The Honda continued another 70 feet into the store before it crashed into a concrete post. Police indicated that a number of people were struck by the vehicle as it traveled through the store.

Responders were immediately called to the crash scene, where they found that the driver had suffered significant injuries. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital to receive care. Six other adults were also hospitalized to receive care and further medical screening for injuries suffered during the incident, either from shards of glass or from being struck by the vehicle itself. Updates on their conditions have not been provided. Additionally, Vallejo Fire Department officials stated that there did not appear to be significant structural damage to the building.

Investigation

VPD spokesperson Lt. J. Potts told reporters that the collision “does not appear intentional.” However, police haven’t mentioned what factors, if any, they think may have played a role in the crash. Single-vehicle accidents are common and can be caused by a variety of different factors, many of which drivers cannot control. In many cases, a defective auto part, such as a faulty accelerator or brake system makes it impossible for drivers to avoid accidents.

Pedestrian Injuries

Being in an accident as a pedestrian is very dangerous, and pedestrians often suffer severe injuries even when vehicles are traveling at low speeds. Because they aren’t protected by seat belts, airbags, or steel walls, pedestrians are vulnerable to a range of injuries, many of which can drastically affect their lives. Some of the more common pedestrian injuries include:

In many cases, these injuries leave crash survivors in a difficult situation both physically and financially. Not only is the recovery process difficult and emotionally taxing, but survivors frequently worry about how they will be able to pay for the medicine, medical procedures, therapy, and the other care they need. This can be especially concerning if their injury has left them unable to work.

In order to make sure these costs are covered, crash survivors should always talk to a Vallejo personal injury lawyer about their options for claiming compensation from insurers and/or negligent parties.
