Wrong Way Crash Kills Two
I’m Ed Smith, a Zamora auto accident attorney. Around 11:30 p.m. on March 2, 2016 a double-fatality crash happened in Zamora, California.
What Happened?
A wrong way driver going northbound in the southbound lane of Interstate 5 collided with another motorist. Someone called police to report they had witnessed a Honda Accord going the wrong direction at about 11:30 p.m. Shortly thereafter, police received another call of a fiery crash near Interstate 505 and Zamora Road in Yolo County. The horrific crash involved a Honda Accord and a Ford pick up truck.
California Highway Patrol
An officer from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that both vehicles had been travelling about 70 mph at the time of the crash. Unfortunately, the driver of the Honda Accord was travelling the wrong way. The Honda Accord collided with the Ford Pick up, head on, causing a fiery crash. The Ford Pick up was fully engulfed in flames when fire personnel arrived. The Honda Accord was destroyed by fire. A CHP officer indicated the collision caused an explosion on impact. Sadly, both drivers died from their injuries at the scene of the tragedy.
Crash Scene Investigation
CHP and other investigators were at the scene for several hours. Personal belongings from the wrecked automobiles littered the interstate. The southbound lane of Interstate 5 was closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up and collect evidence from the scene.
Victim Information
The identity of the victims who died in the crash has not been released by the coroner’s office.
