Hit-and-Run After Causing Injuries is a Felony

The driver in this Olivehurst incident will likely face felony charges if apprehended. When a person flees the scene of an accident that causes damage to property only, the hit-and-run charge would usually be a misdemeanor. However, if a driver flees an accident scene where another person has sustained injuries, the charges become felony-level – much more serious. In this recent Olivehurst incident, the crash resulted in a tragic fatality.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month

As we have reported recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated October as National Pedestrian Safety Month. This nationwide campaign is in response to the increasing incidents of fatal pedestrian traffic accidents. As more and more people walk for recreation and just to get around, cities need to provide a safe and separate area for those on foot to protect them from vehicle traffic. Whenever pedestrians and bicyclists are traveling in an area that also has heavy vehicle traffic, risks to the pedestrians exist.
