Intersection Accident Causes Injury to Woman in Rio Linda

A two-vehicle collision involving a motorist pulling a 5th wheel in Rio Linda on April 10 injured one woman. The accident was reported at about 1:30 in the afternoon at the intersection of 16th Street and Elkhorn Boulevard. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrived to conduct an investigation into the crash and determine fault. Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders were called to the scene also to assess injuries to a woman that occurred during the crash. It was not reported which hospital the patient was transported to, however, she appeared to have an abdominal injury.

Damages in a Vehicle Collision Injury

Those who are injured in an accident often face expenses, especially if the injury was serious. Car insurance usually pays for repairs or replacement costs of their vehicle. However, paying for their injuries and time away from work to heal is another story, especially if they are uninsured or have high copays. Those who are without health insurance can be shocked by the high bills they face. However, placing a claim for the recovery of those expenses from the negligent party can help an injured person avoid financial disaster. The recovery of damages in a personal injury claim includes the following:

  • All medical expenses associated with the accident injury: From the cost of the ambulance, hospitalization, doctors’ fees, specialists, testing, and prescriptions, these expenses can be recovered. Expenses that are out of pocket are reimbursable, too, such as the cost to travel to a doctor’s appointment. Rehabilitation is covered as well as the cost of durable medical equipment and others too numerous to mention.
  • Future medical costs: In some cases, the injured person suffers from a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord damage, burns or other conditions that require treatment into the future. These expenses can be recovered, including nursing home care and health care workers that visit the home and others.
  • Wages that were lost because of an inability to work: Lost wages from time off at work can be claimed as well as any bonuses or the value of other perks the person would have normally recieved. If the injured person returns to their job but has to be demoted because of the injury, the difference in pay is recoverable. Training is recoverable also if the person cannot return to their former job.
  • Reimbursement for pain and suffering: These are referred to as noneconomic damages because they have no set financial cost. Noneconomic damages include loss of consortium, loss of the love, care and affection of an injured person toward their spouse, partner and children and others. Because some people suffer psychological and emotional damage after a vehicle collision, those who experience post-traumatic stress disorder can get damages if professional help has been used to treat this condition.

Investigation of a Two-Vehicle Collision

To obtain damages, it has to be shown that the client’s injuries were caused by someone’s negligence in a car accident. This entails investigating the accident to determine negligence. We send out our investigators right away to gather the evidence to support your claim. Some of the areas of investigation include:

  • Reviewing the police report for mistakes and talking to witnesses to the accident.
  • Looking for cameras that might have captured the vehicle collision on tape such as at local businesses or traffic surveillance.
  • Performing accident reconstruction to show how the vehicle collision occurred.
  • Looking for negligence by the driver such as distracted driving, being impaired, speeding and disobeying other traffic laws.

Our lawyers take over once all the evidence is gathered to build a case for compensation. This material is used when negotiating with an insurance company for the client or preparing a case for civil court.
