Elderly Woman Identified After Fatal Single-Vehicle Accident in Placerville

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, officials of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department identified the decedent of a recent vehicle accident as 78-year-old Placerville resident, Carol Dirske. Dirske was reportedly fatally injured during a collision that took place in the afternoon on Thursday, June 4, 2020. According to reports from the Placerville Police Department (PPD), the cause of this accident is still being investigated.

Crash Information

The crash happened at around 3:11 p.m. on Degolia Street in Placerville. Reportedly, Dirske had been driving a 2019 Toyota RAV4 and was attempting to enter the garage of her house when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The Toyota crashed through the back wall of the raised garage and overturned as it traveled down a 20-foot embankment on the other side of the house. Pictures of the accident scene show the vehicle on its roof and a large hole in the wall of the nearby garage.

Response

Officials were rushed out to the crash site after the incident was reported. When they arrived, they found Dirske had been critically injured and had her taken to the Marshall Hospital. Later on, Dirske was transferred to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for more extensive medical attention. However, she was sadly unable to withstand her injuries and passed away while in hospital custody.

Investigation of Single-Vehicle Accident in Placerville

As PPD continues to investigate this accident, officers have indicated that driver intoxication is not suspected as a causal factor. In many cases, accidents like this one have multiple factors and can include causes not under driver control like malfunctioning brakes, faulty accelerator pedals, poor vehicle safety design, and more.

After a fatal crash, it can be difficult for police to fully understand what caused the accident. By contacting a personal injury attorney, you can ensure that you and your family receive fair compensation by having an experienced professional commit their resources and skills toward determining whether or not the accident involved any negligence.

Rollover Collisions

Rollover accidents, especially those involving heavy vehicles like the RAV4, can be very dangerous and often leave vehicle occupants with very severe injuries. A major reason that rollovers have such a high rate of severe and fatal injuries is that vehicle roofs are frequently not able to keep occupants safe. If a vehicle is poorly designed or has a roof made of weak materials, it may crush inward during a rollover, intruding into the cabin of the vehicle and causing critical injuries.

In these cases, the vehicle manufacturer may be considered partially or fully at-fault for the accident and held financially responsible for damages. In order to make sure your attorney can determine whether or not a crushed roof injury was involved in your accident case, it’s critical to preserve the wrecked vehicle as evidence.
