Accident on Cecatra Drive Caused by Driver Who Hits Building

A car crashed into a building in Wilton on October 27, causing injuries to at least one person inside the structure. The accident happened at Frog Willow Farms on Cecatra Drive northeast of Wilton Road at around 2:28 p.m., as reported by officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP). First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were called to the scene to help. However, no additional information was provided about the injured party or the extent of the injuries. The accident is being investigated by the CHP to find out how the accident occurred and to assign fault.

Causes of a Car Crash Into a Building

Around 60 times a day, a vehicle plows into a building somewhere in the United States, which results in about 500 fatalities and countless injuries. Some reasons that a vehicle goes out of control and crashes into a building include:

  • Accelerating by mistake: Operator error is probably the most common cause of a car crash with a building. The driver either accelerates too much or puts the vehicle into the wrong gear.
  • Being intoxicated: Drunk driving can lead to a car crash into a building because the driver cannot safely control their vehicle.
  • Nearby traffic collisions: A car crash that occurs in the street can impact other nearby vehicles and push them into a building.
  • Speeding: Speeding is responsible for many vehicles that cannot be controlled by the driver. Intersections are common locations for this type of accident that involves crashing into a building.
  • Adverse weather conditions: When it’s raining, snowing, foggy, or sleeting outdoors, visibility is reduced as well as the driver’s ability to control their vehicle. If a driver loses control and the vehicle goes into a spin or slide, it can lead to a car crash involving a building.
  • Medical emergencies: When the driver suddenly becomes ill such as having a seizure, stroke, or heart attack, they can lose control of the vehicle.

Collecting Damages Following a Car Crash Into a Building

When a negligent motorist or other entity is the cause of someone’s injuries, that person has the right to file a personal injury claim to recover damages. It’s been shown that when an injury lawyer is handling the claim, the award is often at least three times higher than when the injured party goes about it alone. Damages that can be recovered include:

  • Medical expenses: Any medical expenses that arise as a result of the accident injury can be recovered, including hospitalization, ambulance, tests, surgeries, and rehabilitation care. Even out-of-pocket expenses are recoverable, such as the cost of gasoline if you drive to your doctor’s appointments. In injuries where treatment is not finished, or a permanent disability occurs, those costs are factored in.
  • Wages: If the injured party cannot work and isn’t reimbursed for their time off, that is recoverable in the settlement, including bonuses and additional perks of the job.
  • Pain and suffering: These non-economic damages are recovered and meant to compensate the injured party for their physical, psychological, and emotional pain and suffering. Those who have to seek professional care due to post-traumatic stress disorder may be able to recover the cost of that treatment.
