Vacaville Woman Identified After Highway Accident

On Thursday, May 30, 2019, a fatal car accident took place in an unincorporated Yolo County. The deceased woman was identified as Linda Shier, a 63-year-old resident of Vacaville. In addition to Shier, two other people suffered major trauma during the accident, including a 55-year-old Vacaville man and a 24-year-old resident of Fairfield. Updates on the condition of the injured individuals have not yet been provided. I would like to express my sympathy to Ms. Shier’s loved ones as they are mourning their tragic loss.

Crash Information

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers stated that the accident happened just after 6:00 p.m. The Fairfield man had been driving north on Highway 113 in a Hyundai Sonata when his vehicle drifted left and entered the southbound highway lane. The Sonata struck a southbound Dodge Caravan head-on a short distance south of the Casey Road junction, causing extreme damage to both vehicles.

Responders were sent to the accident site immediately. Upon arriving, medical officials found Shier in the passenger seat of the Dodge. Shier was found with critical injuries and was sadly declared deceased at the scene of the accident. The driver of the dodge was discovered with major injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to the Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center for care. The sole occupant of the Sonata was also found with major injuries and was transported to the same Vacaville hospital by helicopter ambulance.

Investigation

Officials are still actively investigating this crash to determine what factors were involved. According to reports from CHP investigators, alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in causing this accident. However, police are still unsure of why the Sonata traveled into southbound lanes. CHP has asked for help with their investigation from anyone who may have information about the collision. Those who believe they can aid CHP in their investigation should call using either (800) 835-5247 or (707) 428-2100.

Wrongful Death Damages

When people lose loved ones in car accidents, it can have a serious effect on their lives. It often takes people a long time to be able to cope with feelings of grief and knowing that your loved one could have survived if it weren’t for the negligent actions of another person can make this even harder. While the emotional trauma of fatal accidents is very serious, the financial aspect of wrongful death can make it almost impossible to fully recover personally after a fatal accident.

Suffering these losses can be devastating, but families can often get help by seeking payments through wrongful death claims. While a person can never really be replaced, claiming wrongful death payments can help people pay for expenses like funeral costs, income loss, and more. If you’d like to know more about how you can get financial help after a fatal crash, contact a Vacaville wrongful death lawyer as soon as you are able.
