Two People Killed in Yuba City Crash

According to local California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials, two people lost their lives during a car accident that took place in Yuba City on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Authorities indicated that one of the fatally injured individuals was a 24-year-old woman while the other was a 2-year-old child. Additionally, a third individual, a 50-year-old, was left with major injuries as a result of the incident.

Crash Information

The crash occurred at around 4:30 a.m. at a location on Highway 99 near the exit for Hutchison Road in Yuba City. CHP indicated that the 24-year-old woman had been driving north on the highway in a 2018 Dodge Caravan at an estimated speed of 65 mph. For reasons that investigators do not understand, the Dodge drifted left and drove across the center median as well as both southbound lanes, eventually entering the right-hand shoulder of the other side of the highway.

As the Dodge entered the gravel shoulder, the driver reportedly made a sharp turn in order to re-enter the highway. When the Dodge re-entered southbound lanes, it traveled directly into the path of an oncoming 2018 Jeep Liberty. The two vehicles crashed into each other head-on.

Response

After they received a call about the crash, CHP sent out a team of emergency responders to the location. When responders reached the collision scene, they found that all three individuals involved in the accident had suffered severe injuries. Tragically, the two occupants of the Dodge lost their lives on-scene. The Jeep driver was rushed to a local hospital for emergency care and updates on her condition have not been released.

Investigation

CHP has reported that they are still conducting an investigation into possible causes of this terrible accident. While no suspected factors have been reported, officers have indicated that they do not think driver intoxication was involved. In many cases, fatal accidents like these are caused by two or more factors, and many of these are things that none of the involved motorists are able to control.

Furthermore, it can be difficult for investigators to get a full picture of the events that took place leading up to the crash when one or more drivers are unable to offer testimony. In cases like this, it’s critical to get in touch with a lawyer who has experience privately investigating fatal accidents. By conducting their own investigation, your lawyer can help make sure that negligent parties are held financially responsible.

Wrongful Death Compensation

It is never truly possible to replace what you’ve lost following a deadly crash. However, families are often able to claim a significant amount of compensation in order to help them during a difficult time. By filing wrongful death claims, it’s possible to recover payments for lost income, medical expenses, and funeral costs as well as compensation for personal suffering. If you’d like to get an idea of what you may be able to recover after a collision, it’s always best to talk to a trusted attorney. However, for a brief overview, you can watch this video:
