A tragic incident resulted in two killed in solo-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Placer County  on Wednesday afternoon, January 28, 2026 according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP reported the incident occurred around 2:25 p.m. on westbound I-80, east of Weimar Cross Road. For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle reportedly left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and struck a tree.

Authorities confirmed that the victims, a man and a woman, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash to determine contributing factors.
