Two Dead Following Yuba City Area Auto Accident

Two Dead Following Yuba City Area Auto Accident

On Thursday, November 14, 2019, a Yuba City area auto accident left two individuals with deadly injuries. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials stated that the accident involved two vehicles. One of the decedents has been identified by Sutter County authorities as Steven Luke Flemming, a 48-year-old Yuba City resident. The other decedent has only been identified as a 17-year-old girl, and county officials are waiting to release her identity until her family is notified. In addition to the two decedents, one more individual received serious harm during the accident.

Crash Information

Police reports indicate that the crash happened at around 4:50 p.m. on Pass Road just west of Yuba City. Flemming was driving a 2006 Honda eastbound on Pass Road when his vehicle drifted to the left, eventually entering westbound lanes. As the Honda traveled into oncoming traffic, it entered the direct path of a second vehicle occupied by the two 17-year-old girls. The two vehicles crashed into each other head-on, causing extreme damage.

After CHP received a phone call notifying them that the accident had happened, emergency responders were immediately sent out to the scene. Medical officials reported that both vehicle drivers were critically injured during the crash. Tragically, both Flemming and the teenage driver were declared deceased on-scene. The teenage passenger was reportedly found with a serious laceration on her leg and was transported to a hospital via helicopter for urgent medical attention. Updates on her condition remain unavailable.

Investigation

CHP has indicated that they are currently conducting an investigation into what factors may have been involved in this tragic auto accident. However, no suspected causes have been mentioned by police so far. Often, accidents like this one are difficult for police to investigate because they aren’t able to take statements from the involved drivers. Drivers being unable to report what happened to investigators can lead to police overlooking factors that may have played a critical role in causing the accident.

Finding out whether or not any negligence was involved in a fatal car accident is crucial, and it’s important for families of decedents to reach out to an attorney who can launch a private investigation into the incident. An experienced lawyer will have the skills and resources to determine what parties may have liability for damages.

Recovering Compensation

There can never be a dollar amount placed on the importance of a loved one and no amount of compensation can truly replace their presence in your life. However, families are often put in a very difficult situation, both emotionally and financially after an accident takes place. By filing a wrongful death claim, families of decedents are often able to hold parties such as vehicle manufacturers, government entities responsible for roadway maintenance, and others responsible for a wide range of both personal and economic losses. Obtaining wrongful death compensation can help families have the financial and personal stability they need during a very stressful time.
