At Least One Person Injured in a Fleeing Driver Accident on Tomki Road

A fleeing driver accident near Fort Bragg on November 21 caused at least one injury. The crash happened along Tomki Road around 1:49 a.m. when a woman phoned the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to report that a female had been struck in a hit-and-run. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported that the woman had been transported to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley in Fort Bragg.

Juveniles Report Motorist May Have Been Drunk in Fleeing Driver Accident

Authorities reported there was a large group of juveniles gathered in the area. The juveniles reportedly told police that the suspect was intoxicated and the accident had occurred around 90 minutes earlier. However, no one knew the suspect’s name.

Police Checking Other Hospitals for Possible Injuries Related to the Accident

People were allegedly telling the suspect not to leave. However, he fled the scene and was reported as running people over. Authorities were checking Adventist Health Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits to see if anyone else had arrived there with injuries.

Authorities Seek Fleeing Driver

CHP traffic crash investigators were checking Flock Falcon cameras in the area to see if the accident had been captured on tape. In addition, they went on foot to look for the vehicle involved in the crash. A vehicle was found off the roadway and removed by a tow truck. Whether this vehicle was suspected in the fleeing driver accident was not reported.

Finding a Driver Who Hit and Ran

Our investigators have located many hit-and-run drivers over the years. Our experience and resources enable us to accomplish this. Investigations may be conducted in the following areas:

  • We send our investigators to the scene of the fleeing driver accident as soon as possible. The paint marks and recovered metal pieces can match the vehicle’s make and model.
  • Police accident reports are reviewed to ensure accuracy and to determine what evidence they recovered.
  • It is checked to see if the accident was captured on surveillance cameras in the area. The tape can be recovered and used as proof if it was.
  • Reconstruction of the accident shows how the vehicle was positioned in relation to the bicyclist and how the accident occurred due to a fleeing driver.

Motorists May Use Their Uninsured/Underinsured Auto Insurance Policy

As part of their auto insurance policy, drivers can add uninsured and underinsured drivers coverage. This add-on insurance is popular among drivers because many other motorists do not have coverage or carry a minimal policy. Injuries sustained in motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, or pedestrians are covered for injuries. You can also use a family member’s uninsured/underinsured policy if you don’t have one. In the future, the policy’s rates will remain the same.
