Tragic Crash Kills Modesto Boy

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto auto accident attorney. A young boy died from the injuries he suffered in a tragic crash on July 3, 2016 in Stockton, California.

What Happened?

Eight-year-old, Isaac Adams, passed away after the truck he was riding in as a passenger lost control shortly after striking a guardrail along Highway 99 in Stockton.

Was Anyone Else Injured?

Yes. The driver of the truck, Genaro Castellanos, 33, suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. Castellanos has been identified as the boy’s father.

Candlelight Vigil for Isaac Adams

Friends and loved ones will remember Isaac Adams in a candlelight vigil on Monday, July 11, 2016. The event will be held at sunset at Woodrow Elementary School in Modesto. The address of the school is 800 Woodrow Avenue. It is located just blocks southwest of Standiford and McHenry avenues in Modesto.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Isaac Adams during this difficult time.

Motor Vehicle Accidents Involving Guardrails

Guardrails are installed along highways and roads. They are designed to keep motor vehicles from driving into an area more dangerous than the highway or road. Guardrails often deflect the motor vehicle back onto the roadway. This makes the vehicle more apt to collide with traffic, either traffic proceeding in the same direction or traffic coming from the opposite direction.

Considering the Height of the Guardrail

Drivers typically trust that the guardrail will protect them from serious injuries. This may generally be true. However, the height of a guardrail that may be appropriate for a sedan may cause a rollover crash in a light truck. A motorcyclist might even just slip right under the guardrail, rendering it useless in protecting the cyclist.

Statistics Involving Guardrail Accidents

The most serious guardrail collisions happen on highways when motorists are travelling at high rates of speed. A guardrail is often designed to prevent a motor vehicle from striking a hazard on the other side. However, it is sometimes safer to remove the hazard rather than allow an equally hazardous guardrail to remain in the way.

Sometimes guardrail collisions are the result of a driver who is driving recklessly or speeding.

Sometimes it isn’t the driver’s fault at all.

Improperly Maintained or Poorly Designed Guardrails

Guardrail crashes can also be related to guardrails that are improperly maintained. Motorists have been seriously hurt as a result of lack of maintenance of guardrails. Additionally, a problem with the design and/or construction of the guardrail may be a cause.

If you have further questions regarding guardrail accidents it is important to contact an experienced auto accident attorney right away. To bring a claim against a government entity you have approximately 180 days or six months from the date of the accident.
