Double Accident Near Folsom Boulevard Injures Two People and Claims One Life

The traffic fatality of a Good Samaritan occurred in Sacramento County on April 16 when they were attempting to assist a pedestrian who had been involved in a separate accident. The accident occurred around 8:15 p.m. near Folsom Boulevard and Bradshaw Road, as reported in the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The pedestrian involved in the initial accident suffered moderate injuries, and other vehicles stopped to offer aid around 10 minutes later.

Good Samaritans Stop to Help Injured Pedestrian

Three vehicles ended up blocking the road when another approaching vehicle collided with two people who were helping the injured pedestrian. One Good Samaritan suffered moderate injuries from the second accident, while the other died. Both the pedestrian initially injured, as well as one of the Good Samaritans, were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Double Accident Under Investigation

The name of the Samaritan who died in the collision has not been released pending notification of the family. The traffic fatality accident is under investigation to determine what happened.

Loss of a Loved One in a Traffic Fatality

It’s always difficult to lose a loved one, but when that person dies as a result of a traffic fatality caused by someone else’s negligence, it can be even harder. The family faces feelings of grief, anger, confusion, and guilt that maybe there was a way the death could have been avoided. It isn’t until later that they realize the financial loss that often accompanies the demise of a loved one.

Why Placing a Wrongful Death Claim May Help

Contacting a personal injury lawyer for a free case review to see if your family can file a wrongful death claim can accomplish two things. It can punish the wrongdoer and offer a sense of justice and closure for family members. In addition, it can help relieve the financial stress caused by the cost of a funeral, burial, and loss of income they may face. Over the years, my legal team and I have successfully recovered compensation for many people in Northern California in just the same position your family may face.

Compensation Recovered Through a Wrongful Death Claim

Members of the immediate family of the decedent may join together to file a wrongful death claim. The following may be recovered, which, although it will not ease their grief, may help them to move forward without financial worry:

  • Wages the decedent would have earned until the age of retirement are recovered.
  • The decedent’s pension, insurance benefits, bonuses, and other perks of the job are recoverable.
  • The expenses for end-of-life services are recoverable.
  • Loss of consortium and the love and affection lost by the spouse or punitive spouse are recovered.
  • Loss of guidance and nurturing for the children in the family is recoverable.
  • If the decedent lived for a time before passing and received medical care, those costs are recoverable through a survival action.
  • If the loss of the loved one was through an egregious act such as by a drunk driver or deliberate behavior, the family may be awarded punitive damages through a survival action. The amount awarded for punitive damages is usually much higher than compensation for wrongful death.
