Area Around Traffic Crash Closed as an Investigation Is Conducted

The area around East Tabor Avenue from Manor Place to Falcon Drive was announced as closed due to an investigation by authorities into the collision. It remained shut down until 11:55 a.m. The minor was transported to a hospital for treatment and added evaluation. However, no updates on her medical condition have been announced as yet. No information has been released by authorities on whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

Pedestrians Involved in a Traffic Crash

Motorists are expected to use extra caution when driving near residential neighborhoods or parks where juveniles may be about to avoid a traffic crash. Because juvenile pedestrians are harder to see and don’t have the experience of an adult, tragic accidents can occur. However, the majority of accidents involving pedestrians are due to negligent drivers, such as in the following:

  • Failing to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks, intersections or corners
  • Running red lights or stop signs when a pedestrian has the right-of-way
  • Driving too fast for conditions or in excess of posted speed limits
  • Not paying attention to the road, and failing to look out for pedestrians
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol impairs judgment and reaction time when it comes to avoiding a crash with a pedestrian
  • Being distracted by cell phones or other electronic devices or other passengers in the vehicle
  • Failing to signal when turning or changing lanes
  • Driving recklessly or aggressively in areas with many pedestrians, such as school zones and public parks
