Crash on S.R. 51 Near Sutter’s Landing Regional Park

A traffic accident on northbound State Route 51 at the E Street on-ramp at about 9:18 in the morning hours resulted in injuries on August 26. The crash occurred near Sacramento’s Sutter’s Landing Regional Park. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that two vehicles were involved in the traffic accident, a Toyota Camry and a gray Chevrolet. The Toyota ended up on the right-hand side, facing in the wrong direction.

Authorities said that the injured party was complaining of pain in the back, neck, and lower extremities. No further information about the person’s condition was forthcoming at this time. The CHP is investigating the traffic accident to determine who was at fault.

Two-Vehicle Traffic Crashes

Two-vehicle crashes are common, especially on busy roads. The consequences are heightened when the vehicles are traveling at highway speeds. There are many reasons this type of traffic accident occurs. Here are some of the most common:

  • Distracted driving: Driving while texting, talking on the phone or fiddling with the radio or GPS takes your focus off the road. This sometimes momentary lack of focus can lead to severe injuries. Distraction has become the leading reason for collisions as more and more people try to multitask while driving.
  • Drunk driving: Impaired driving is dangerous. This is due to the loss of cognitive function and the ability to make safe decisions when driving. Drunk driving is illegal and comes with hefty fines and jail time in some cases.
  • Reckless driving: Some motorists fail to use caution when driving. They take risks such as weaving in and out of traffic and speeding. This type of behavior often leads to a traffic accident.
  • Speeding: A motorist’s control of his or her vehicle is directly proportional to the speed. As the speed of a vehicle increases, it is harder to control. Besides, the driver will be unable to stop in time to avoid a traffic accident.
  • Inclement weather: Weather conditions influence traffic safety. Driving in the rain, on ice or slick roads all contribute to an increased incidence of collisions. Inexperienced drivers are most likely to be affected by bad weather.
  • Nighttime driving: Driving at night when visibility is low makes it harder to navigate the road safely. It is essential to be vigilant for pedestrians or motorcyclists in dim light.
  • Intersection accidents: Intersections account for half of all significant collisions and about 20 percent of fatal ones. One of the most common types of intersection collisions occurs when a driver tries to run a red light

Injuries in a Two-Vehicle Traffic Collision

The type of injury is dependent on how the accident occurs. For instance, it depends on whether the collision happened at higher speeds or the type of impact involved. Some common injuries are:

  • Cervical sprain: This type of injury, commonly referred to as whiplash, usually results from a rear-end collision. It causes painful soft-tissue injuries, and recovery can take up to a year in some cases.
  • Traumatic brain injury: TBIs can vary from a mild concussion to a serious intracranial bleed. Recovery depends on the type of TBI.
  • Fractured ribs: The ribs are fragile and broken when the body collides with rigid structures within the vehicle, such as the steering wheel. In some cases, the rib can splinter and cut into the lungs or heart.
  • Internal bleeding: This is an emergency and can result in a fatality if left untreated. Sometimes, the bleed can be missed and the person is released from the hospital. Dizziness or fainting is a sign of low blood pressure due to blood loss and should be taken seriously.

Investigating a Traffic Accident

To file a personal injury lawsuit against an at-fault driver, it is necessary to prove that negligence was involved. We send our investigators to the accident scene where they:

  • Interview witnesses
  • Review police reports for mistakes
  • Use accident reconstruction to determine liability
  • Obtain video footage of the accident

Once gathered, our lawyers use it to build a strong case for our clients.
