Three Dead Following Davis Collision
Three people reportedly lost their lives after a single-vehicle accident in Davis on Friday, May 10, 2019. In addition to the three fatally injured people, one more individual suffered severe injuries during the accident. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened late at night on the southeastern edge of Davis. The fatally injured driver and passenger have not yet been identified by authorities who are in the process of notifying the decedents’ families. Crash Details
The collision happened at around 10:53 p.m. on Highway Interstate 80 close to the Olive Drive exit. Four individuals had been traveling in a 2006 Chrysler westbound on the highway. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree near the right-hand shoulder. A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had swerved from the fast lane across all three westbound lanes and that the car struck the tree with its left-hand side.
Response
CHP dispatch sent out emergency responders to the accident scene immediately. Upon arrival, emergency officials found that all four occupants of the vehicle had suffered critical injuries. The driver and two passengers tragically passed away at the scene of the collision.
The third passenger, identified as an 18-year-old man from Sacramento, was found in the roadway after being ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The Sacramento man was rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance in order to receive immediate medical treatment for serious injuries. Updates on his condition have not been made available by hospital officials.
Investigation
Officers from CHP are currently attempting to determine what factors were involved in this terrible accident. However, no suspected factors have been mentioned by officials so far. Single-vehicle crashes are very common, especially at night, and can be caused by a variety of factors. Common crash factors in accidents like this one include driving while distracted, defective pavement or other roadway hazards, malfunctioning vehicle parts, and more.
