A Suisun City scooter accident on Tuesday morning left two juveniles injured after a vehicle struck them near the 76 Gas Station at Sunset Center off Highway 12. One of the juveniles was transported by medical personnel to a local hospital for further evaluation. Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine its cause.

The Dangers Scooters Face Near Motor Vehicles

Scooters have become an increasingly popular means of transportation among both children and adults, but their presence near cars, trucks, and other vehicles poses serious risks. Even at low speeds, riders are exceptionally vulnerable to severe injuries from collisions with larger and heavier vehicles. Lacking the protective structures that cars provide, scooter riders are often exposed to direct impacts, leading to head, back, and limb injuries that can be both traumatic and long-lasting.

Negligence by Drivers That Causes Scooter Accidents

Negligent driving behaviors are a leading cause of a Suisun City scooter accident involving a motor vehicle. Drivers may fail to see scooters altogether due to inattention, distracted driving, or not yielding the right of way. Additional acts of negligence leading to these collisions include speeding, driving under the influence, aggressive lane changes, following scooters too closely, and failing to check blind spots. Environmental factors, such as poor signage or unmarked crosswalks, can further exacerbate these dangers, but it remains the responsibility of the motorist to drive with care and attentiveness when sharing the road with scooters and other microtransit users.

How an Accident Lawyer Can Help Injured Scooter Riders

Following an accident, a skilled injury attorney can be invaluable for injured scooter riders and their families. The legal complexities of these cases often involve establishing driver negligence, dealing with insurance companies, and ensuring that those who suffer injuries receive proper medical attention and compensation. An experienced Suisun City scooter accident lawyer gathers evidence to support the injury claim, communicates with involved parties, and builds a strong case to hold at-fault drivers accountable.

Compensation can include coverage for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and future rehabilitation needs. When minors are injured, their parents or legal guardians may file a claim for them to recover the compensation they deserve.

Other Legal Issues in Scooter-Motor Vehicle Collisions

Scooter accident cases can also involve third parties, such as scooter rental companies or governmental bodies responsible for road maintenance. Faulty scooter design, defective equipment, or hazardous road conditions can increase the complexity of a claim. For example, in the instance a faulty scooter caused the collision, a product liability claim may be placed against the manufacturer.

If hazardous road conditions were involved, a government claim may be placed. However, the time limit to file a government claim is only six months, so enlisting the help of an accident lawyer is important. An attorney experienced in these matters can help explore every potential route to recovery, maximizing the compensation available to the injured and working hard to obtain justice.
