Solo Crash Kills Citrus Heights Man

Single Car Accident Kills Citrus Heights Man

The coroner has released the name of a 23-year-old man from Citrus Heights who died in a solo car accident on December 21, 2015. The vehicle accident happened in Rio Linda, California.

What Happened?

According to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) news release, the accident happened around 3:40 a.m. The man was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee westbound along Elkhorn Boulevard. He was just west of 14th Street in Rio Linda. For unknown reasons, his jeep left the roadway. It then went up an embankment and overturned.

He was the only person in the car. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

What Caused this Tragic Auto Accident?

CHP officials are currently tasked with investigating this solo crash. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role. An autopsy and toxicology report would be necessary to determine the exact cause of death. We are seeing a significant increase in distracted driving accidents. This happens when someone is using their phone while driving.

Are There Other Possible Causes for Solo Wrecks?

Occasionally, we learn of a traffic fatality where there has been a phantom car involved. A phantom vehicle may have caused or significantly contributed to the events leading up to a fatal crash. Then, for whatever reason, the phantom car flees the scene (hit and run). The occupant in the other car dies in what appears to be a solo crash. An experienced car accident lawyer would investigate and help you determine the cause.

Why Would Anyone Leave the Scene of an Injury Accident?

It is unconscionable, but it does happen. The phantom driver could have been distracted, under the influence, uninsured, undocumented, unlicensed, or even in a stolen vehicle. In some hit-and-run accidents, surveillance cameras in the area of the accident may help identify a phantom vehicle who is a hit-and-run driver. Canvassing the area for witnesses who might have seen something is also a good idea. Especially since the main witness died in the crash.
