Single-Vehicle Fatal Accident Takes Place Near Davis

Fatal Accident Occurs on County Road 36

A single-vehicle fatal accident occurred near Davis on April 21 when the driver of a sedan lost control. The vehicle overturned. The accident was reported around 12:18 p.m. along eastbound County Road 36 at the intersection with County Road 105. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived at the scene to find the vehicle on its roof. The driver apparently died in the crash. An investigation is ongoing to determine why the collision occurred.

Collisions Involving Rollovers

Traffic accidents that involve a vehicle tipping over onto its roof or side are called rollovers. When a vehicle collides with another object, like a guard rail or another car, or when the driver loses control, it can roll over. As a result of rollover accidents, passengers can be thrown out of the vehicle or crushed by its weight, making them more serious than other types of traffic accidents.

Causes of Single-Vehicle Rollover Accidents

Single-vehicle rollover accidents occur when a vehicle flips onto its roof or side. Although driver error is often cited as the cause of these accidents, several other factors can contribute to these incidents. Some of the common causes of single-vehicle rollover accidents other than driver error include:

  • Road design and conditions, such as sharp curves or steep inclines, can lead to a fatal accident. Although the government entity may be held liable for injuries or a fatality, the statute of limitations is only six months. Obtaining help from an injury lawyer can ensure papers are filed on time.
  • Vehicle design flaws, such as a high center of gravity or inadequate stability control, can cause a rollover accident. Light trucks, SUVs and vans are most likely to experience a rollover, but it can happen with any vehicle if the circumstances are just right.
  • Tire blowouts or tread separation, causing loss of control, can cause a fatal accident. If the problem is a tire defect, a product liability claim may be placed against the tire maker, manufacturer and others.
  • Overloaded or improperly loaded vehicles can result in the car becoming unbalanced, causing a rollover.
  • Collisions with objects such as guardrails, medians or other obstacles commonly cause fatal accidents.
  • Adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rain, snow, or ice, may lead to a driver losing control of their vehicle.
  • Negligent maintenance, such as worn brakes or suspension problems, can lead to a serious collision.

Rollover Accidents Resulting in Roof Crush

If a vehicle experiences a rollover, its roof is expected to support its weight. Although manufacturers are required to construct their vehicles to prevent this, not all do. Keeping the vehicle after a rollover allows it to be examined. It may be possible to file a product liability claim against a manufacturer if a roof crush occurred, resulting in a serious injury or a fatal accident.
