Serious Injuries Suffered in Truck Collision West of Willows

On Saturday, June 6, 2020, California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that at least one person was left with serious injuries after a truck accident that took place a few miles west of Willows. The collision reportedly involved a passenger vehicle and a big-rig hauling an empty tank. An investigation into the accident is ongoing and updates on the conditions of the injured parties have not been provided.

Collision Details

CHP reports indicated that the wreck occurred on Highway 162 near the small community of Longvale at around 4:59 p.m. Police stated that, for unknown reasons, a big-rig collided with another vehicle. However, further details about the circumstances of the crash were not released. Responders at the accident scene found at least one person with severe injuries and had them transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Truck Accident Investigation

As officers continue their investigation into this accident, no likely causal factors have been mentioned in reports. Trucking accidents can be caused by a number of factors, many of which are not under the control of motorists or truck drivers. These non-driver collision factors include common things like major defects in the road or a malfunctioning car or truck part. In these cases, auto product manufacturers or government entities may be liable for damages.

Truck Accidents and Quick Action

Big-rigs are huge vehicles and can legally weigh up to 80,000 pounds with a fully loaded trailer. Because of their massive size, semi-trucks are very dangerous and carry tons of force into collisions. This means that even minor accidents involving big-rigs can easily cause critical or even fatal trauma. Furthermore, being so large makes it difficult for these vehicles to make collision avoidance maneuvers.

These factors are well-known to trucking companies. These companies usually think of accidents as a normal risk of conducting their business and are prepared to take action right away when a crash takes place. In many cases, the company will even dispatch a legal response team to the accident site in order to conduct investigations and control the narrative around what caused the incident.
