Types of Negligence in a Two-Vehicle Intersection Accident

When two vehicles collide in an intersection, the negligent behavior of at least one driver can cause an accident. Depending on the specifics of the incident, there are a number of types of negligence that can be identified, including the following:

  • Failure to obey traffic signals – When a driver fails to obey traffic signals such as stop signs and red lights, they put themselves and other motorists at risk for an intersection accident.
  • Ignoring right-of-way rules – Drivers also have a responsibility to adhere to right-of-way rules when navigating intersections. Failing to do so can lead to serious accidents involving multiple vehicles.
  • Distracted driving – Texting or talking on the phone while driving is hazardous in busy intersections, as it limits a driver’s ability to make split-second decisions.
  • Speeding – When drivers speed through an intersection, they have less time to react to other vehicles or changing traffic conditions. This can lead to serious accidents if the driver cannot stop in time.
  • Driving under the influence – Drug and alcohol impairment severely dampens judgment and reaction times, which increases the likelihood of an accident at an intersection.
  • Failing to check blind spots – Drivers must always check their blind spots before entering an intersection; failure to do so can put them at risk for colliding with another vehicle that they did not see coming.

How a Lawyer Gathers Evidence to Support Your Injury Accident Claim

After a two-vehicle intersection accident, it is important to gather evidence that proves who was at fault. In order to support the injury accident claim for compensation, a lawyer will investigate the scene of the crash, review police reports and witness statements and obtain copies of photos taken after the incident. The investigator working for the lawyer will also conduct accident reconstruction and examine area surveillance cameras to see if the collision was captured on film.

By collecting this evidence, your lawyer can build up a strong case on your behalf that shows which party was negligent and therefore responsible for paying damages. It is critical to have an experienced attorney handle all aspects of your injury claim so that you are fairly compensated for any losses or injuries you have sustained.
