Hit and Run Driver Causes Injuries Along Stockton Boulevard

A hit and run with injuries happened in Sacramento on September 12 that involved four vehicles. The accident happened around 10:21 in the morning along northbound Stockton Boulevard and Chandler Drive. The extent of injuries and the number of individuals hurt in the collision were not released. According to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), two of the four vehicles that remained at the accident site sustained heavy damage, including broken axles, and had to be towed.

Hit and Run Driver Sought

The party that left the scene was reportedly driving a Ford and left in another vehicle. Police are investigating how the hit and run occurred and seeking the fleeing driver. It is unknown at this point whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.

Complications of a Multiple Vehicle Crash

When multiple vehicles collide, it must be shown who was not only at-fault for the collision but whether others were also negligent. Common causes of a crash of this type include:

  • A driver was texting, talking on a cell phone, or otherwise distracted.
  • The driver ran a red light, was speeding, or committing another traffic infraction.
  • The driver was drunk driving or had been using drugs.
  • The driver was too fatigued to be driving from doing shift work, staying up late, or taking a medication that made them sleepy.

Locating a Fleeing Driver

Those who suffer injuries in a hit and run are left pondering how they will pay their medical bills and who will compensate them for lost wages and the pain and suffering they endured. My law office has successfully identified and located hit and run drivers many times. In a case involving a fleeing driver, contacting an experienced lawyer for help quickly is important before evidence disappears. When the driver has been located, they can be held liable for the costs of the injury through either their insurance company or a court judgment.

Using Insurance to Pay for Injuries

If the driver cannot be found, my office can help an injured person collect compensation by using their uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. This insurance is offered to all motorists in California as optional coverage. If the injured person does not have this add-on policy and another household member does, he or she can use theirs. It does not affect the policy holder’s insurance rates and covers accident injuries for those in passenger vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians.

How a Personal Injury Lawyer Helps

Over the years, my law office has successfully handled many traffic accident injury cases, including those involving hit and runs. Investigation to collect evidence is key in supporting a client’s compensation claim. Our investigative team checks the police report for mistakes, looks for video footage from surveillance cameras, and interviews witnesses. They also conduct accident reconstruction, which is evidence used both by courts and insurance companies to show fault.

Once the evidence has been compiled, it’s time for our lawyers to take over to use that information to build a case in support of our client’s personal injury claim. This information is used when conducting negotiations on the client’s behalf with an insurance company or in civil court.
